Tuskegee Architecture and Construction Alumni Association (TACAA)

President's Message...

     Eric G. Archie

The past decade marked a period of highs and lows in terms of growth for TACAA. After reaching all-time highs in terms of membership earlier in the decade, TACAA membership and participation fell off considerably during the middle to latter part of the past decade. However, our immediate past president, Tarlee Brown, performed a commendable job during his tenure as president to “brink back” the alumni to this organization. Under Tarlee’s direction, TACAA was incorporated in the State of Georgia, the IRS designated TACAA as a 501 c 3 tax exempt organization, and TACAA presented Awards to recognize architecture and construction graduates from the class of 1949 and 1950 at Founders Day ‘09. We, the members of TACAA, extend our sincere appreciation to Tarlee for his leadership and efforts displayed over the past few years.

My first term as president of this organization ended in November of 2002. In June of 2010, I received the honor of again being elected President of TACAA. As we move forward, increasing membership and corporate fundraising will be a primary focus. Additionally, we will focus on strengthening our ties with the newly elevated Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction by increasing our financial and intellectual support. It is indeed a pleasure to have this school under the direction and leadership of Dean Dr. Robert. K. Dozier, AIA. Further, we will focus on developing a relationship with the newly appointed President of Tuskegee University, Dr. Gilbert L. Rochon. We will formally introduce TACAA and enlighten him on the proud history of architecture and construction at Tuskegee University. It is our hope that greater business opportunities with Tuskegee University for alumni and TACAA members will result from this relationship.

As of October 1, 2010, we have re-activated the TACAA website. The website’s purpose is to provide a means of communicating with the membership and potential corporate donors. Features found on the website include, but not limited to, posting job openings, project announcements, TACAA Merchandise, and News at Tuskegee University. A "facebook" element will also be added to the website to facilitate the exchange of information between members and friends of TACAA.

The Architecture and Construction programs at Tuskegee University have allowed the members of TACAA to prosper in their respective professions. It is essential, that we, the alumni, continue to support the Architecture and Construction programs so that others may benefit to a greater degree in the future.

Sincerely,
Tuskegee Architecture and Construction Alumni Association (TACAA)
